Orison is another word for prayer. It is also the name of a series of works I began during the Covid-19 pandemic. For most of the books in this ongoing series I wrote the texts. During the hours I spend reading, I sometimes come across a string of words that so exactly describes my own thoughts I use them instead. Such was is the case with Orison Four. This text was inspired by a character in Julia Glass' 2022 novel Vigil Harbor. An architect who has been asked to design a residential bunker for a wealthy client states: “I want to believe that we can all go on living with our faces to the light, no matter what comes our way.” This piece was created using a variety of papers, including pigmented abaca from the Morgan Paper Conservatory, ink, acrylic, colored pencil, linen, thread, copper, wood and plastic. It is housed in a custom drop spine box.
Oh to all go on living with our faces to the light, no matter what comes our way.
